Supports for physicians on Alternative Payment Models, including those providing care in hospitals

The Ministry of Health is taking steps to support ongoing delivery of services for family physicians on Service Contracts or Salary Agreements while the Ministry, Doctors of BC, and BC Family Doctors are developing an expanded LFP Payment Model to include facility-based care for inpatient, maternity, palliative, and long-term care.

Steps include:

  • An overhead stipend of up to $75,000 per FTE for family physicians on both full and defined scope contracts who pay overhead costs out of pocket, currently limited to the 2023/24 fiscal year.

  • Authorization for health authorities to increase range placement on existing primary care contracts to 100% of the range maximum, with Ministry approval.

  • Funding to support the implementation of net new full and defined scope contracts, pending submission and approval of an Application for an Alternative Payment Arrangement.
