Governance & Representation

Doctors of BC is a democratic Association representing more than 14,000 physician members. Our dual-structure governance model centers on a Representative Assembly to ensure members’ views are fully represented and a Board of Directors that has the legal and fiduciary responsibility to manage the affairs of the Association.

The 9-person Board oversees the activities and internal affairs of the Association and sets strategic direction and policy. The 108-member Representative Assembly (RA) provides wide-ranging representation from: all geographical areas of the province, Family Physicians/FPs and specialists, those practicing in rural and First Nations communities, medical students, residents, those members in early years of practice, as well as the Canadian Medical Association.

The two bodies strike a balance between an efficient, nimble governance body (the Board), and a body that will ensure members’ views are fully represented (the RA).
