Get ready for September – Doctors of BC wants to hear from you

August 10, 2015

I hope you are all having a great summer with family and friends. It’s tough to think of Fall when the weather is so beautiful, but it’s around the corner! And I want to take this opportunity to give you – our members – a heads-up that we will be coming to you in September with a consultation on the future of how we govern our Association.

Why is this important?  In the years ahead our profession will face many issues – issues that are becoming more complex and that we need to anticipate and be ready to proactively address. To do this we will need a strong governance structure, one that allows us to be nimble and flexible – a governing structure that will allow effective decision-making and good representation for all our members. What will this model look like? That is what we want to hear from you. Our consultation paper will look at a number of approaches to a change in governance structure that will better enable us to continue serving your interests regardless of where in BC you live, what kind of medicine you practice, or what services and benefits you subscribe to.

Many of you will put this note aside, and get back to your summer activities. In fact, I encourage you to do that. But I hope that as we move toward September you will watch for information on our upcoming consultation and how you can participate. We know there is momentum for change among the membership, and we want to ensure the proposals for change that ultimately come your way for decision will reflect your views. Governance structures define how your voice is heard – so get engaged and have your say so that together we can better shape the future of our Association.

President, 2015-2016
