Walk with your Doc to take steps towards good health

April 18, 2017

Did you know that walking can have the same health benefits as running? It’s true! Walking is a simple and fun way for people of all ages and abilities to feel good and be fit. But where can you start? Who can you walk with?

Since 2010 Walk with your Doc has been spreading the word to British Columbians about the health benefits of daily walking. An annual event celebrating daily movement for better health, Walk with your Doc provides the resources for doctors to host free events and walk side-by-side with their patients and the public in their communities all across the province. Why do doctors want to walk with patients? Because it’s the best prescription for health they can give you!  It’s also an opportunity for doctors and patients to talk about the benefits of healthy activity in a non-clinical setting. And all participants will receive a pedometer to keep track of their steps throughout the year.

The Walk with your Doc website has an interactive map of walks happening across British Columbia where you can see if a walk is happening in your community.  You can also register to participate in a Walk, and we encourage you to share stories and photos of your walk with the hashtag #WalkWithYourDoc.

Be part of the event that gets people moving. For more information, visit the Walk with your Doc website here.
