Partnering with Change Day to make a difference

September 23, 2015

As a partner in Change Day BC, Doctors of BC is encouraging physicians throughout the province to champion the initiative – which takes place on October 15, 2015 – by committing to one small act of change that will improve care for patients or the system we work in.

What is Change Day? It’s a global social movement that began as a grassroots movement in England in 2013. The campaign received 189,000 pledges in its first year and over 800,000 in its second year. Since then, 27 countries including Australia, Jordan and Sweden have joined in. In 2014, Saskatchewan became the first Canadian province to participate, and this is the first year BC has join the movement.

The premise of Change Day BC is simple – commit to your small act of change and record your pledge online at ChangeDayBC.ca by October 15, 2015. Pledges can be anything big or small, such as asking patients how their visit was.

The initiative is being coordinated by the BC Patient Safety and Quality Council with a lot of help from partnering organizations, including Doctors of BC. And as doctors, let’s lead by example, by showing how the small things we do today truly can make a huge difference tomorrow.
