Doctors of BC Hosts Inaugural Resident Graduate Dinner

June 18, 2014

As part of our commitment to better engage with medical students and residents, Doctors of BC hosted, for the first time, a Resident Graduation Dinner in Vancouver on Friday, June 13, 2014.

With this event, we celebrated the achievements of doctors who had either just completed or were about to complete their residencies. Residents and their families enjoyed a wonderful dinner and had the opportunity to mingle and catch up with fellow grads and representatives from Doctors of BC, the Canadian Medical Association and PAR-BC (Professional Association of Residents of BC).

Dr Bill Cavers, Doctors of BC President, told the graduates that they are the doctors of tomorrow, and that their role as leaders for the medical profession is more important now than ever before. Next, fellow classmate Dr Erika Dempsey said a few words acknowledging this huge milestone. Finally, newly practicing family physician and public health specialist Dr Lawrence Loh spoke to residents about “life on the other side”. He assured them to trust that they had been trained well and that they were ready for this next adventure. His speech inspired the audience with his encouraging words. We will be evaluating feedback from the event, and will consider expanding it into regions around BC in the future.
