CMA launches phase two of Choosing Wisely Canada

October 29, 2014

The Canadian Medical Association has launched phase two of the Choosing Wisely Canada campaign.

Choosing Wisely Canada aims to help physicians and patients engage in healthy conversations about potentially unnecessary tests, treatments and procedures, and to help physicians and patients make smart and effective choices to ensure high-quality care.

As part of phase two, national organizations are releasing evidence-based lists of 61 of these tests, treatments and procedures for which there is strong evidence of overuse, waste, or even possible harm to patients. The goal in the release of this list is to encourage dialogue on this matter between physicians and their patients.

Doctors of BC recognizes that physicians have a professional, moral and ethical responsibility to take the lead in addressing these challenges. We encourage members to learn more about Choosing Wisely Canada by visiting www.choosingwiselycanada.org
