We are pleased to welcome Dr Josh Greggain to the role of Chief Medical Advisor, Primary Care at Doctors of BC. Dr Greggain brings over 20 years of experience in family medicine and has served in various medical leadership roles, including president of Doctors of BC (2023), co-lead of the Network of Rural Divisions at the Rural Coordination Centre of British Columbia (RCCbc) and, more recently, Program Director of Family Practice Residency at UBC’s Department of Family Medicine.
He will leverage this expertise to advance Doctors of BC’s mission and strategic priorities and, in collaboration with the Board, help identify direction and actions for advocacy, negotiations, and policy development.
Dr Greggain has been involved with Doctors of BC since 2019, including serving as a member of the Joint Standing Committee on Rural Issues and as Physician Lead on the Longitudinal Family Practice (LFP) Working Group, where he played an instrumental role in developing the LFP Payment Model.
In his work and his practice, he aims to “listen with three ears”—not only to hear what individuals say, but to genuinely understand their lived experiences and unique perspectives. This approach, combined with years of positive collaboration with colleagues, earned him the 2021 Family Physician of the Year award from the BC College of Family Physicians, along with numerous additional accolades.
As Dr Greggain steps into this new part-time role, he has recently transitioned from his role as Program Director of Family Practice Residency at UBC, a position he has held since 2024. He will continue working as a family physician in Urgent Care on Vancouver Island, interspersed with locums across the province in rural family practice, emergency medicine, and inpatient care. He is also working with his father, a family physician from the United States, to set up a multidisciplinary family health clinic on the island later this year, in the territory of the Qualicum First Nation.
Dr Greggain joins our Chief Medical Advisor in Indigenous Health Care, Dr Kelsey Louie, and they will be joined by a third Chief Medical Advisor in Specialist Care. More information will follow once this appointment is finalized.
