Our governance

Doctors of BC's governance is supported by two primary bodies:

  • Our Board of Directors set and support the Association’s vision and strategy; is responsible for the Association’s good governance; provides operational oversight; and, through designated representatives, engages in internal engagement and external advocacy. The Board is composed of the three officers (President, President-Elect, and Immediate Past President) and eight Directors at Large.
  • Our Representative Assembly (RA) provides a forum for members to discuss issues of importance to the profession, as well as provides guidance to the Board of Directors. It brings together over 100 elected and appointed physicians from all medical sections and geographic areas, as well as physicians practising in Indigenous health contexts and rural contexts, and medical learners.

These bodies strike a balance between an efficient, nimble governance body (the Board), and a larger, diverse body whose members’ collective knowledge and experience informs the Board (the RA). In addition, six statutory committees (committees established in the Association’s bylaws), and approximately 30 standing committees, councils and working groups ensure the physician voice leads the way in all aspects of the Association’s affairs.
