Compensation for family physicians
The Longitudinal Family Physician (LFP) Payment Model is grounded in a commitment to increasing patient access to community-based, longitudinal family medicine care and expanding primary care capacity across British Columbia. It is a blended payment model that compensates physicians for time, interactions, and their overall patient panel to reflect the comprehensive and continuous nature of family medicine.
Facility-based care was introduced into the payment model in June 2024 allowing longitudinal family physicians to bill under the LFP Payment Model for care in clinic-based and facility-based pregnancy and newborn care in hospital, inpatient, long-term and palliative care.
