At Doctors of BC, our physician members are at the heart of everything we do. We are committed to working diligently on your behalf, and are proud to offer members a range of valuable benefits and services. There is great value in being a member of Doctors of BC, which is why more than 95% of all BC doctors choose to join.
Advocacy: robust engagement with government and other stakeholders on issues central to family physicians and specialist physicians; member webinars including those that help prevent physical and online attacks, overcome burnout, and that address racism in team based care; and policy development on topics important to BC physicians.
In 2022 we successfully negotiated an enhanced Physician Master Agreement, which was ratified by BC doctors - with the highest voter turnout for a PMA vote in association history. We also developed with government a new payment model for family doctors to help ease primary care pressures and support quality health care in BC. We offered a number of member webinars on each detailing information and answering member questions.
Health and wellness: the Physician Health Program supports doctors in all stages of their career on issues such as mental health, substance use, concern for your colleagues, among others, and includes new initiatives such as peer support training and matching unattached physicians with their own family doctor.
We continue to address the burdens that doctors are increasingly experiencing – our recent policy paper includes a useful Burdens Solutions tool that can evaluate existing, new, or potential demands on physician time to avoid duplicative and unnecessary tasks.
Insurance: BC physicians can choose from a number of comprehensive personal and professional insurance options, including life, disability, accident and illness; travel and medical; identity theft; health and dental; and property and casualty insurance.
Financial: we continue to offer a number of financial services including the Contributory Professional Retirement Savings Plan (CPRSP) to help physicians fund their retirement, the Canadian Medical Protective Association (CMPA) rebate program that provides members with partial reimbursement of their CMPA fees, and Continuing Medical Education (CME) reimbursement that assists physicians with their educational expenses.
Personal: the Parental Leave Program pays up to 17 weeks when you have a child, either by birth, adoption, or surrogacy; Club MD provides exclusive deals from brands you trust to help you better enjoy your personal time.
Pandemic supports: we have created a number of COVID resources and toolkits physicians can use in their offices to keep patients, staff, and themselves safe; and offered a number of webinars including everything doctors should know about the different COVID vaccines, prescribing anti-viral medications, and getting patients back to in-person visits.
