1. Insurance Committee – SECOND CALL

Doctors of BC is seeking applications for one Family Physician committee member and one Community-based Specialist committee member to be appointed to the Insurance Committee.

The Insurance Committee

  • Sets policy regarding all matters related to Doctors of BC member insurance programs
  • Reviews and accepts/rejects proposals made by Doctors of BC employees regarding the insurance programs.
  • Provides advice and guidance to the HBTF Board of Trustees regarding benefits provided under the Health Benefits Trust Fund plans.
  • Works in cooperation with the Benefits Advisory Committee (BAC), reviews matters related to the operation of the Physicians’ Disability Insurance plan; recommends plan changes to the BAC for presentation to the Joint Benefits Committee.
  • Recommends changes in policy, programs, and new programs to the Board.
  • Reviews requests by members to intervene with insurers and advocate on members’ behalf when the Committee deems the insurer’s actions inappropriate.

2. Alternate Payment Physicians Issues Committee – SECOND CALL

Doctors of BC is seeking one Service Contracted Specialist member to be appointed to the Alternative Payment Physicians Issues Committee (APPIC).

The APPIC is a standing committee of the Doctors of BC that engages with Alternate Payment physicians and advises on issues affecting physicians who receive a portion of their remuneration through salaries, service contracts and/or sessions.

The APPIC provides input and recommendations on the mandate for negotiations and on the activities of joint Doctors of BC/Government Committees.

3. Tariff Committee

Doctors of BC is seeking applications for one surgeon physician member to be appointed to the Tariff Committee.

The Tariff Committee is a statutory committee that studies all matters concerning medical economics, reviews and recommends Fee Guide changes submitted by Sections, provides information, clarification, and direction to Sections and members on MSP billing matters and policy, and maintains protocols and policies related to the process to make Fee Guide Changes.

4. Allocation Support Committee

Doctors of BC is seeking applications for one medical specialist physician member to be appointed to the Allocation Support Committee.

The Allocation Support Committee (ASC) is a standing committee that provides ongoing support to the allocation process by developing standard data sets; including information on intersectional and interprovincial compensation comparisons, seeks input from sections, and calculates allocation in accordance with the Two-Stage Fee Allocation Process.

5. Council on Health Economics and Policy

Doctors of BC is seeking one member at large physician to be appointed to the Council on Health Economics and Policy.

The Council on Health Economics and Policy (CHEP) is a standing committee that directs the activities of Doctors of BC concerned with the assessment and formulation of policy options relating to the economics, organization, and management of the health care system, seeks consensus within the medical profession on key policy and economic issues, assists Doctors of BC in creating a more effective dialogue with all levels of government so as to ensure that the voice of the profession is heard at the federal, provincial, and inter-provincial levels, and encourages the development of “strategic alliances” with other provincial and national bodies as appropriate or required in areas of provincial or national concern and interest.

6. Negotiations Forum

Doctors of BC is seeking applications for one member at large physician (providing services under Salary Contract) to serve on the Negotiations Forum.

The Negotiations Forum is responsible for making a recommendation to the Doctors of BC Board of Directors on the mandate to govern provincial negotiations between the Doctors of BC and any external organization. In 2025, this will include negotiations with Government for a new Physician Master Agreement and negotiations with WorkSafeBC for new agreements covering physicians who provide services funded by WorkSafeBC.

7. ICBC Liaison Working Group

Doctors of BC is seeking applications for one family practice physician member to be appointed to the ICBC Liaison Working Group.

The ICBC Liaison Working Group is a joint group between ICBC and the Doctors of BC that addresses areas of mutual interest and/or concern including physician education (i.e. billings, policies, and programs), consultation and input to ICBC policies, and dispute resolution between physicians and ICBC regarding the practice or billing process.

8. Physician Health Program Steering Committee

Doctors of BC is seeking applications for one member at large physician to be appointed to the Physician Health Program Steering Committee.

The committee governs the Physician Health Program by:

  • Periodically developing and approving a multi-year strategic plan;
  • Developing and approving annually a work plan and budget for the program;
  • Approving annually an operating budget for the program; and
  • Approving and reviewing from time to time the policies governing the operation of the Program.

9. Shared Care Committee

Doctors of BC is seeking applications for one co-chair physician member and one family practice physician member (with a focused practice) to be appointed to the Shared Care Committee.

The Shared Care Committee (SCC) is a joint committee that facilitates collaboration among FP’s, Specialists, FP’s with Focused Practice and other health professionals to identify and address issues that impact the care of patients. SCC’s approach to their mandate is to support a wide range of time-limited initiatives, anchored in the QI methodologies of the Institute for Healthcare Improvement, focusing on the Triple Aim improvement goals of improved patient outcomes, patient and provider experience of care, and efficient, sustainable solutions—as patients move between providers and care settings.

10. Provincial Laboratory Physician Workload Model Committee

Doctors of BC is seeking applications for one clinical pathologist specialist member to be appointed to the Provincial Laboratory Physician Workload Model Committee.

The Provincial Laboratory Physician Workload Model Committee (PLWMC) is a committee that represents all laboratory medicine physicians working in public facilities in British Columbia, who are members of the British Columbia Section of Laboratory Physicians. The committee determines how the anatomical pathology workload model will be used in or related to local laboratory physician contracts, continues development and validation of a clinical pathology workload model, and determines how the clinical pathology workload model will be used in or related to local laboratory physician compensation contracts.

11. Reference Committee

Doctors of BC is seeking applications for one emergency medicine physician member to be appointed to the Reference Committee.

The Reference Committee is an advisory committee of the Medical Services Commission that reviews disagreements between Medical Services Plan (MSP) and physicians about specific services rendered under the fee for service (FFS) MSC Payment Schedule and makes recommendations to resolve these billing disputes as the last step in the MSP appeal process. Membership is confidential and is limited to only representatives of Doctors of BC.
