Shame has a powerful but often unspoken influence in medical culture, shaping how physicians experience feedback, learning and professional relationships. Developing skills to recognize and respond to shame can support healthier individuals, stronger teams, and more psychologically safe work environments.
During the session, Dr Will Bynum will use personal narrative, audience engagement, and visual imagery to explore shame in healthcare and introduce shame competence—a set of skills, principles and practices for constructively engaging with shame at individual and organizational levels.
This is the first PWN Rounds, a provincial physician wellness speaker series available to all BC physicians, hosted by the Physician Wellness Network through the BC Physician Health Program.
