Peer support programs
Local Peer Support Programs offer confidential, non-clinical, emotional support to physicians facing a range of work and life-related challenges. These programs are tailored to the specific needs of each physician community, and delivered by trained Peer Supporters who are fellow physicians, offering a unique understanding of the stresses and pressures faced by those in medicine.

BCMHSUS Forensic Physician, Concurrent Disorders, and Correctional Health Services Physician Engagement Societies
The BCMHSUS Physician Peer Support Program provides BC Mental Health and Substance Use Services Engagement Society physicians with short-term, casual conversations that promote community and understanding. It offers confidential one-on-one interactions for emotional support, delivered by trained peer supporters from the Forensic Physician Engagement Society, Concurrent Disorder Physician Engagement Society and Correctional Health Services Engagement Society. East Kootenay Division of Family Practice
The East Kootenay Division of Family Practice understands that being a physician comes with unique challenges. Our regional Peer Support Program is designed to provide non-clinical, short-term emotional support to physicians in the East Kootenay who are facing work or life-related stressors. Our diverse team of trained physician peer supporters offers a safe, confidential, and non-judgmental space for meaningful conversations.

Fraser Northwest Division of Family Practice
The Fraser Northwest Division’s Peer Support Program provides confidential, one-on-one support for physicians through trained peer supporters—fellow physician colleagues who understand the unique challenges of the profession.

Greater Victoria Area
The Greater Victoria Physician Peer Support Pilot Program offers short-term, one-on-one peer support to doctors across our region, regardless of specialty or practice location. Their seven local peer supporters are trained and available to listen to their colleagues and help guide through next steps.

IMPACT
Created by and for rural clinicians, the Isolated Medical Provider Aftercare Team (IMPACT) offers confidential peer-to-peer support to rural physicians and to nurses in remote nursing stations in British Columbia who have experienced a potentially challenging incident in the course of their work.
To ask for an IMPACT peer supporter to reach out, call +1 236 361-9090 and leave a confidential voicemail message. An IMPACT peer supporter will connect with you or the affected medical provider within 72 hours.
Kelowna General Hospital Medical Staff Association
The Kelowna General Hospital Peer Support Program offers confidential emotional support facilitated by trained physician peer supporters in a 1:1 setting. Their services extend to supporting medical staff at Kelowna General Hospital, while also providing access to wellness resources. The group is a diverse range of physicians, who lend a listening ear in the hallway as well as organize structured peer support meetings.
North Shore Division of Family Practice
The North Shore Division of Family Practice’s Physician Peer Support program offers brief non-clinical support to physicians on the North Shore dealing with work or life-related stressors through trained physician peer supporters.

Penticton Medical Staff Association
The Physician Peer Support Program at the Penticton Regional Hospital encourages an authentic human connection with another person who shares similar life experiences — in this case, the unique stressors and challenges faced by physicians. PRH Peer Supporters offer non-judgmental listening and non-clinical emotional support with life, work, and other issues. Their aim is to facilitate these confidential, non-clinical empathetic conversations between colleagues, where physicians feel safe to share the issues they are experiencing with someone trained to listen.

Prince George Medical Staff Association
The Prince George Physician Peer Support Program provides confidential, short-term, non-clinical emotional support conversations among Prince George physician colleagues who understand the unique stressors and challenges faced by physicians in their community.

RWO Peer Support Program
Peer Support is open to all Residents and can be sought in one of two ways. Reach outs can be initiated by Program Directors who believe Peer Support would benefit a Resident who has experienced an emotionally distressing event. Additionally, Residents from all programs can reach in to the Resident Wellness Office to request Peer Support directly. Residents from any program who have experienced an emotionally distressing event or are just seeking supports and would like to be connected with a Peer Supporter, please reach out in our form below.

Section of Public Health and Preventive Medicine
The Public Health and Preventive Medicine Peer Support Program is designed to provide short-term peer support for PHPM Physicians who face unique challenges and workplace stresses in their position and could benefit from support from colleagues to create positive impacts on their wellbeing and workplace experiences. The PHPM Peer Support Programs offers confidential, non-clinical emotional support to physician colleagues by trained physician peer supporters in a 1:1 setting. Physicians seeking peer support can expect up to three 15–45 minute sessions with their matched peer supporter. If additional support is needed beyond three sessions the peer support program will provide information on other resources that can be accessed.

UBC Medicine Support
Medical students can access peer support through the Medline Peer Support Program by going to this (you will need to use your Entrada sign in info to access the page and then click on Medline).

Vancouver Division of Family Practice
The Vancouver Division Peer Support Initiative provides 1:1 confidential, non-clinical support to family physician colleagues in the City of Vancouver by physician Peer Supporters.
- Make a request for peer support for yourself or a colleague. Once you’ve reached out, a peer supporter will connect with you or your colleague within 2–3 days to schedule a conversation.
VCH Physician Peer Support
The VCH Physician Peer Support Program (PPSP) offers informal peer support to physicians experiencing a difficult time. This can include a mental health and/or substance use concern, college complaint, audit issue, workplace challenge/critical incident, trauma or uncertainty. Through the VCH PPSP, physicians can connect with a physician peer for support and guidance that is empathetic, safe, confidential, one-to-one, short-term, and at no cost.
