Have you been inspired by someone making rural health care better? Nominations for the 2026 BC Rural Health Awards are open until December 15, 2025.
These annual Rural Coordination Centre of BC (RCCbc) awards honour rural physicians, communities, and residents who are improving rural health in BC. RCCbc is funded by the Joint Standing Committee on Rural Issues, one of four committees that are a partnership between Doctors of BC and the BC Government.
Categories are:
- Rural BC Community Award: Honouring a BC rural community for supporting local rural health care service delivery. The 2025 award recipient was the Nisga’a Valley Communities.
- Award of Excellence in Rural Medicine: Lifetime Achievement: Recognizing BC rural physicians for a career of extraordinary work and service. The 2025 award recipients were Dr Jeff Beselt, Dr Karen Forgie, Dr Bruce Hobson, and Dr Garnett Tarr.
- Resident Leadership Award: Highlighting a resident who has demonstrated a sustained interest in rural and remote medicine in BC. The 2025 award recipient was Dr Yonabeth Nava de Escalante.
