Patterns of Practice Committee

The Patterns of Practice Committee is a Medical Services Commission Advisory Committee and acts in an advisory capacity to the MSC. The committee has several main functions, such as:

• Education: It reviews, informs and educates physicians regarding their pattern of practice billings
• Produces the annual Mini Practice Profile for all Fee for Service (FFS) and Longitudinal Family Physician (LFP) payment model for Physicians who bill from the MSC Payment Schedules
• Provide a forum for physicians who wish to raise their concerns about the audit process (Post Audit)
• Nominates Medical Inspector and Audit Hearing Panelists candidates for final approval and consideration by the Audit and Inspection Committee (AIC) and the MSC.
• Additional tasks identified by the Ministry of Health (MoH), the MSC and/or The Physician Main Agreement (PMA)

The mandate for Doctors of BC nominated Committee members is to support these functions in a way that provides balanced and appropriate information to physicians and/ or Sections. The role may provide objective oversight and feedback on the audit process (Post Audit). Another critical objective for the role is to support collaboration amongst the other committees, as directed by the MSC, and/or per our terms of reference and support the Physician Main Agreement (PMA) as it pertains to the POPC.

Lastly, Doctors of BC nominated members support the development of educational efforts in regard to billing patterns related to billing patterns and audit findings. Members on this committee may apply their clinic expertise and experience in an objective fashion, in alignment with the objectives and responsibilities of the POPC that are fair, appropriate and supportive of high standards of medical practice and appropriate compensation for physicians.
