Payment Models

Payment models – information for physicians

There is strong interest among some physicians to move from a straight Fee-for-Service (FFS) payment method to other compensation models.

We have created this page to provide you with information and resource documents to keep you informed about what changes may mean for you. We are also providing you with a way to let us know your thoughts (below) on this important topic.

Our position

As an advocate for physicians, Doctors of BC supports the development and testing of new payment models in an environment where physician choice is protected and where parties have the opportunity to evaluate their effectiveness before broader use.

Overview of different payment models

Our summary paper, Physician Compensation Models: A Backgrounder provides you with an overview of different payment models based on a review of BC and other jurisdictions.

How we can support you

We have and will continue to work with physicians who are interested in transitioning payment models by providing advice and support. If you are presented with a proposal for a new payment model, please contact Doctors of BC staff for advice and assistance at negotiations@doctorsofbc.ca.
