Are you a doctor interested in delivering COVID-19 vaccines?

March 2, 2021

Doctors and other registered health care professionals who would like administer COVID-19 vaccines in the upcoming campaign are advised to register their interest online through the COVID-19 Emergency Health Provider. The COVID-19 EHPR is a provincial resource which health authorities can access as needed to connect with health professionals who have indicated their ability to deploy during the public health emergency. This may include non-immunization (e.g. administrative) activities within the immunization campaign and/or other health service roles.

You can register online with the COVID-19 EHPR. Please fill out all fields in the online registration form as completely as possible. This will ensure health authorities are able to efficiently and appropriately contact you as needed. If you have questions about this process, please refer to the FAQs linked to the online registration form or email for assistance. Be sure to include “COVID EHPR” in the subject line.

It is important to watch for information to be posted or provided by health authorities specific positions or expressions of interest –   monitor the website of your regional health authority so you can express your interest there as well.

Retired doctors

The following information is provided by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of BC:

Retired doctors are able to deliver vaccines if you resigned in good standing. If you are interested in administering vaccines at one of the immunization clinics, please contact the medical affairs department of the health authority in which you wish to work. All of the vaccine clinics are under the direction of the medical health officer of the health authority.

If the health authority wants to deploy you in a vaccine clinic, you will be asked to fill out a Consent for a Criminal Record Check form and provide a copy of your identification, ideally a copy of your BC driver’s license. Your application will be sent by the health authority to the College for emergency registration and will be processed within a business day if you are eligible.

The health authority will also provide you with information about how to reactivate your Canadian Medical Protective Association (CMPA) membership. The CMPA has a humanitarian class of membership which will cover you for COVID-related work.

Note: There is no cost to obtain emergency registration. Only applications that are submitted through a health authority medical affairs office will be processed by the College. If you have questions about vaccine clinics, please contact your health authority for more information:
