Whether opening an office, planning for retirement, or at one of the many stages in between, Doctors of BC is always working to improve the offers, resources, information, toolkits, and one-to-one support it provides to all physician members to help them run the business side of their practice. Explore the options for support below.

One-on-one support from Business Advisors

Doctors of BC’s Business Advisors are located throughout all regions to provide doctors with one-on-one business support.

Last year, Business Advisors answered 481 queries about various topics, with the most inquiries being about Agreement Template support, the Human Resource toolkit, and information about starting in practice. Work continues to develop resources for key business operations such as retirement planning, moving or starting a practice, MOA resources, and more.

Business Advisors are here to provide one-on-one support, answering questions, directing you to the right service or professional, or helping you develop processes such as business plans, human resource guides, or emergency planning. Advisors can also explain guides for group governance agreements or cost-sharing agreements.

Doctors are encouraged to contact a regional Business Advisor to learn more.

Billing education for large groups

Through Doctors of BC’s business support, planning has begun to provide group billing education to help doctors understand the Fee-For-Service (FFS) billing guide. This project ultimately aims to provide targeted education to doctors to help increase their billing knowledge and confidence and reduce time expenditures.

An email with a short survey was recently released to help inform the development and customization of billing education for section-specific needs.

Business resources: Stay up-to-date

The website offers many resources to help doctors navigate various business operations, such as the newly launched Business Planning toolkit, the Human Resources toolkit, and the Contingency/Emergency Planning toolkit.

All doctors can access live and recorded educational webinars on topics ranging from finance and legal best practices to interpersonal skill-building.

A new committee to lead the way

To identify gaps and emerging issues in doctors' business needs, the newly appointed Physician Oversight Committee guides this work and ensures physicians’ perspectives, experiences, and feedback are appropriately understood and actioned. With an equal balance of family physicians and specialists, this committee collaborates to improve physicians' business operations and needs.
