Learn about the steps we're taking towards achieving our mission in our Strategic Plan, which has been extended until 2018 by our Board of Directors
We are governed by a Board of Directors and a 104-member Representative Assembly comprised of physician members. Our President serves as primary spokesperson. In addition, Doctors of BC members contribute to over 60 committees that advocate for issues of importance to physicians and to the citizens of BC.
Doctors of BC was founded in 1900 as the British Columbia Medical Association, and has a long history of working for members, improving patient care, and influencing health care policy.
The Board of Directors oversee the activities and internal affairs of the Association and set its strategic direction and policies. The Board is comprised of our President and President-Elect, both of whom are elected by the membership, along with seven Directors-at-Large who are nominated by the membership and elected by the Representative Assembly.
The Representative Assembly is an influential body that represents members' interests, provides a forum for members to come together to discuss issues of importance to the profession, and offers guidance to the Board. The Representative Assembly is elected by the membership and others who are appointed by a Section or representative organization.
Our leadership team directs and guides Doctors of BC staff, working alongside the Board of Directors to support the strategic direction of the association.
