Seeking patient perspectives on improving care

November 5, 2019

Family doctors and care teams in BC can now hear from their patients about their experiences and interactions within their practices using a new tool developed by the General Practice Services Committee (GPSC), a partnership of Doctors of BC and the BC government.

GPSC%20Patient%20ExperienceThe new GPSC Patient Experience Tool is a tablet-based survey that asks patients about topics such as wait times, office hours, and coordination of care. The anonymized data helps to improve the quality of care at an individual practice. Physicians can choose to share aggregated data with their local division to gather learnings from a larger community perspective. Practices can also use the information to help adopt the attributes patient medical home and to determine readiness to participate in a primary care network.

Initially piloted by 39 clinics throughout BC, more than 6,000 patient surveys have been completed since 2016. It is now being made available to all family physicians around the province. More information and details on how to access the tool in your practice can be found here.
