Supporting medical students on your journey – first year and beyond

August 21, 2019

Medical students in BC are now back at school – some entering for the first time. During your time as a student, Doctors of BC provides you with a strong network – a community of physicians to support and empower you. Our programs and benefits are designed to help ease the burdens and challenges faced during medical school so that you can do your best work. It is all part of our commitment to supporting medical students on your journey to becoming our doctors of tomorrow.

By becoming a Doctors of BC member, you are becoming part of a community of physicians.

We know medical school can be a big financial challenge. That’s why each year we provide more than $200,000 in student bursaries through UBC, and an additional $10,000 annual grant to the Medical Undergraduate Society to help medical students pursue their passion outside of the classroom.

New this year is the Doctors of BC Presidential Scholars Award in Medicine which annually will fund one UBC medical student with a demonstrated financial need for all four years of medical school. By year four, this award will be funding four medical students every year.

Medical school can be challenging. If you or someone you know is having a difficult time – feeling stressed, overwhelmed, burnt out – you have free access to the Physician Health Program. By calling one number, you will have immediate and confidential access to support, referrals and counselling on whatever you may be facing – 24/7, 365 days a year.

Medical school is the first step to becoming a physician, and that’s why we organize a number of events to support you both during medical school and along your journey. Our annual Find Your Match networking event lets you interact and engage with physicians from various specialties and talk about the experiences, challenges, and opportunities they’ve faced. And the CaRMS Mock Interviews gives you the opportunity to experience actual CaRMS interview questions from resident doctors who have recently been through the process.
