Dr Eric Cadesky becomes President of Doctors of BC

June 4, 2018

Doctors of BC President Dr Eric Cadesky says that during his term he will focus on diversity and inclusion, and the role they play in helping to unite the profession and improve how physicians care for patients.

Dr%20Eric%20CadeskyDr Cadesky was sworn in at a ceremony following the Doctors of BC AGM on June 2nd. He takes over from former President and now Past-President Dr Trina Larsen Soles.

“As a white male born in Canada to loving and supportive parents, I recognize the advantages I had that others haven’t,” he said in his post-inauguration speech.

“Respecting diversity, promoting inclusion and creating a safe space where people feel they belong will give voice to new ideas for new solutions. And in doing so we will model the conduct that society expects of us.”

The new President said he is pleased issues around diversity and inclusion have been discussed at the Board level, and that the organization is working to find solutions.

“Let’s get past our differences and focus on what we have in common: we are skilled, dedicated healthcare professionals working hard to provide the best care possible,” he added.

“Practice is changing. GPs work alongside specialists in the OR, ER, and case room. Doctors work in both urban, suburban, rural and virtual settings to meet the needs of British Columbians. And doctors retrain and move from one type of practice another. So, focusing on GP, specialist, urban/rural, and early/late career is a distraction that hinders the collective focus we need to make the changes we want. Please join me in pledging that medical identity politics end here.”
