Walk with your Doc 2014 - Vancouver

May 31, 2014

More than 150 walkers and 25 doctors gathered at Kitsilano Beach in Vancouver to kick off the fifth annual Walk with your Doc event organized by Doctors of BC. Local physicians walked side-by-side with their patients and the public along a scenic 2km route to support daily activity as a simple and fun way to stay healthy.

Before the walk, Burnaby doctor and emcee Davidicus Wong spoke about the benefits of walking and the importance of being active. “Our bodies are meant to move. When we don’t, our health suffers; when we do, we thrive,” he said, adding that walking strengthens your immunity, your memory, and your energy.

Doctors of BC President, Dr William Cunningham said, “Walking is an excellent mood booster as well. BC doctors are committed to supporting our patients to be the healthiest they can be, and this event gives doctors the opportunity to spend time with their patients outside of the office in a natural setting.”

Participants received a free pedometer as well as a pamphlet that provided helpful hints on reaching 10,000 steps a day. Local musician Luca Fogale wowed the crowd with a sampling of his latest tunes, and trainer Kat Ciercierska guided participants through a stretching routine in a group warm-up before the walk began.
