Doctors of BC Submission to the BC Government on Cannabis Regulation

November 9, 2017

In September 2017, the BC government launched a consultation process to seek feedback on the upcoming regulatory framework for non-medicinal cannabis. Doctors of BC provided its feedback through its Submission to the Government of British Columbia on Cannabis Regulation.

Doctors of BC supports a public health approach to regulating non-medical cannabis in BC – a position also taken by the Canadian Medical Association, the national physician representative body. We recommend developing an initial regulatory framework that is fairly restrictive, and suggest future changes to cannabis regulations be based on evidence and careful evaluation of the impact of BC’s regulatory regime. Doctors of BC also recommends that revenue from the legal sale of cannabis be allocated to support harm reduction activities and the ongoing implementation and evaluation of BC’s regulatory system.
