Thank you for everything you do! Family Doctor Day – May 19

May 19, 2022

On this Family Doctor Day taking place May 19th around the world, Doctors of BC is proud to acknowledge the outstanding work of family doctors and the central role you play in our communities, in our health care system, and with every patient you come into contact with – every day, all year long. We know it has been a tough few years, that family doctors don’t feel appreciated, and your morale continues to decline. Primary care is at a crossroads. This year’s theme: Family Doctors, Always There to Care! is most apt given throughout the acute times we are in now, you have gone out of your way to volunteer in vaccination and testing clinics, to make sure those in long term care had the health care they required, to keep advocating for an improved health care system, and to adapt to virtual visits so patients could still access the care they needed. You continue to stand strong in the face of adversity. We thank you, and we know your patients thank you.

In these difficult times, Doctors of BC continues to support you, to advocate for you. On Tuesday, our President and Board Chair met with Premier Horgan and Minister Dix to talk about the ongoing problems and how we can solve them together. Here is the statement on that meeting posted on our home page.

In honour of Family Doctor Day, we have developed and posted on our website and to social media a short video for everyone who has a stake in family medicine.

The General Services Practice Committee has also sent a message of appreciation and thanks directly to family doctors.

Family doctors work hard on the front lines, prioritizing the needs of their patients and communities. Thank you for everything you do!
