Special Call - Opportunity to participate in the Compensation Model Consultation Committee

April 24, 2019

The Doctors of BC Board of Directors is seeking to develop a ROSTER from which qualified physician members will be chosen to participate on an Ad Hoc Compensation Model Consultation Committee to discuss specific compensation models for primary care.

Once a roster is in place, the Board will select members based on experience with similar compensation models (if possible) and the clinical environment in which the model is expected to be applied.

Physicians selected from the Roster will be supported by at least one more physician with experience in the negotiation of compensation contracts and by staff from the Negotiations Department.

Mandate/objective of the Committee:

The Compensation Model Consultation Committee (CMCC) is an ad hoc joint committee composed of representatives of Government and of Doctors of BC. A new committee is created for each specific compensation model to provide an avenue for Government and Doctors of BC to develop a new, mutually agreeable compensation contract for physician services under the new model over a relatively short period of time.

Skill set required:

Physician representatives on a CMCC must have an understanding of the clinical environment in which the New Compensation Model is expected to be applied.

  • It is preferable that physician representatives on a CMCC be familiar with models of compensation that are similar in application to the proposed New Compensation Model.
  • It is preferable that the group of physicians on a CMCC have a broad range of understanding of the different clinical and economic environments to which the New Compensation Model may be applied to ensure a variety of perspectives.
  • It is preferable that the group represent the diversity of physician membership based on gender, rural/urban and stages of practice perspectives.

The members of a CMCC are responsible for representing the views and interests of all physicians in British Columbia that may be affected by the implementation of the proposed New Compensation Model.

Time commitment required:

The CMCC meets for the first time on relatively short notice (30 days or less) and is expected to conclude its discussions over the next 2 to 3 months or as extended by agreement of the parties. Within that  timeline, physicians will be expected to meet for full days (likely in Vancouver) on at least 4 or 5 occasions as dictated by the needs of the consultation process, or potentially more if the parties agree on an extended timeline.

All applicants must be a member in good standing of the Doctors of BC.

CLOSING DATE 11:59 PM (PST) ON THURSDAY MAY 16, 2019
