The most wonderful time of the year

December 4, 2015

As doctors, we’re constantly dealing with urgent, pressing or immediate matters that need our attention, often taking us away from loved ones, friends and personal pursuits.

That’s why the holidays are a great time for us to slow down, step back and take stock of the year that has passed. My term as President of Doctors of BC, which started in June, has been extremely gratifying and fulfilling. It’s an honour to represent you and advocate for you as we work to advance quality patient care and an engaged profession.

Most importantly, the holidays allow us to take time for our families and ourselves. For me, Christmas has always been a special time of year – perhaps the most special. The sights, sounds, smells, and colors of the festive season fill me with a childlike sense of excitement, and the laughter of children and the coming together of family fills me with the sense of hope that the season is supposed to bring.

It’s a time to reflect, to remember the good times, and to enjoy new memories in the making.

So however you celebrate the holiday season and whatever the holidays mean to you, I hope you take time to relax and rejuvenate before the hectic New Year arrives. And I hope you surround yourself with family, friends, and loved ones.

From my family to yours, I wish you a happy and healthy festive season.

Dr Charles Webb
President, 2015-2016
