What’s your perspective on government’s proposed changes to health professions regulation?

December 5, 2019

Doctors of BC is seeking member input to help inform our response to the proposed changes to the health professions regulation recently announced by government. Government’s proposals are based on the recommendations in the Cayton Report, to which Doctors of BC responded earlier this year, and aim to increase transparency and consistency in the health care system. (Both the Cayton Report and our response can be found here.)

The proposed changes include: ensuring regulatory colleges put public interest and public safety ahead of professional interests and improving the effectiveness of regulatory college boards. The proposals also recommend amalgamating the 20 professional colleges into five, however our understanding is that the extent to which this impacts the College of Physicians and Surgeons of BC would be minimal.

While we are gathering member feedback via our online engagement hub to include in our submission to government, we are only asking for feedback on the proposed changes that we consider are most relevant to our members. The deadline for feedback is 11:59 p.m, December 20. More information can be found here (member login required).
