What’s new from your board: Summary of May 2023 meeting

The Doctors of BC board of directors met on May 19. The following summary highlights some of the decisions and discussion that impacts our members. Check out the Board Chair’s Report for detailed information on these items and more.

Advancing our advocacy for members: Doctors of BC will work on two new initiatives to strengthen advocacy for members. The first will focus on health authorities in response to physicians’ concerns raised in the the Health Authority Engagement Survey. Staff will also be engaging with municipalities to investigate options to provide better supports for community-based physicians.

Setting priorities to deliver on our members needs:The board prepared for the upcoming strategic planning session in June in which directors will be considering priorities and goals of the organization for a new strategic plan. 

Strengthening equity and diversity/psychological safety: The board appointed an ombudsperson who will support members in addressing questions and issues relating to the Code of Conduct when they arise in relation to the business of the association.   

Better serving our members: CEO Anthony Knight advised the board that staff is working on a ‘concierge service’ that will provide timely responses to members who are seeking information from Doctors of BC.

Supporting member representation and physician leadership: The board approved a range of committee appointments. They include: the appointment of Dr Jason Kur as co-chair of the Specialist Services Committee, and Dr James Card as co-chair of the Joint Standing Committee on Rural Issues. The board also appointed five new members of the Inclusion, Diversity and Equity Advisory Committee: Drs Valerie Ehasoo, Jennifer Jeans, Jatinder Khatra, Laurie Nadwidny and Charlotte Yong-Hing.
