What you told us: 2021 Health Authority Engagement Survey Report
Last fall, members took part in the sixth annual Health Authority Engagement Survey, which measures BC physicians’ engagement levels with their respective health authority. Your feedback provides unique insights that will be used to improve, enhance, and strengthen the workplace for all in BC’s healthcare system. The report for the 2021 survey is now ready for members to read.
A total of 3,301 members took part in 2021’s survey between September and October of last year—beating the record of 3,200 doctors set last year.
Key insights from 2021’s Health Authority Engagement Survey
- Even though the scores this year remained higher than 2019 levels, they dropped in comparison to 2020’s survey results.
- One in two participating physicians were involved in and/or impacted by a health and safety incident.
- The continuing challenges and frustrations of working in a healthcare system transformed by a global pandemic present significant areas of concern to our members.
The Report also highlights a number of recommendations from physicians, including acknowledging the importance of local leaders, creating early and ongoing engagement opportunities for physicians, and ensuring that physicians feel heard, acknowledged, and valued.
Next steps:
Doctors of BC will be sharing this year’s survey findings with members, staff across the organization, and with the health authorities. Doctors of BC staff will present the results to groups across the province, including Divisions of Family Practice, Medical Staff Associations, and other stakeholders. These presentations provide valuable opportunities to discuss member feedback, emerging trends, and shape evolving avenues for improvement. Staff may also offer insight on existing Doctors of BC policies, programs, and new initiatives to help support specific areas of need.
A Supplemental Report with charts outlining breakdowns by practice type, location, hospital/facility, community, among other elements, is also available on our health authority surveys webpage, along with previous years’ survey results.
