The Practice Toolkit: A resource for BC doctors from the Divisions of Family Practice

February 16, 2016

Doctors focus their energy on giving their patients the best quality care. But there are many aspects of running a practice that can also take up their time, often after hours.

Now, family physicians and specialists in BC have a new online resource to help manage their practices effectively and efficiently. The Practice Toolkit is customizable to suit medical practices of all types and sizes and contains information and sample documents covering topics like workplace safety, employee conduct, privacy and confidentiality, facility checklists, clinician contracts, and confidentiality agreements.

The toolkit was developed through collaboration between the community-based groups of GPs organized under the Divisions of Family Practice initiative, and it will continue evolving as feedback from users is implemented and revisions are made to policies and processes. The sample forms, agreements, and contracts are based on best practices that have been tested by many different practices.

The Practice Toolkit helps clinics comply with employment and privacy law, stay informed of CMA and College of Physicians and Surgeons of BC guidelines, efficiently manage EMRs and other documents, and reduce the need to hire outside consultants. Visit the provincial Divisions website to access the Practice Toolkit and other practice support resources including the Recruitment and Retention Toolkit and the HR Toolkit.

The Divisions of Family Practice initiative is funded by the General Practice Service Committee (GPSC), a joint committee of the provincial government and Doctors of BC.
