Physicians: provide input on a new summary guideline on the treatment of opioid addiction – until December 18.

December 7, 2017

BC physicians, and other health care professionals, are invited to provide input into a draft clinical guideline on Opioid Use Disorder – Diagnosis and Management in Primary Care. The summary guideline includes recommendations for diagnosis and management of opioid use disorder and has been developed to encourage primary care practitioners to recognize and treat opioid use disorder as part of their broad practice. Its focus is on induction and maintenance of buprenorphine/naloxone (Suboxone®) opioid agonist treatment for adults and youth (ages 12 years and older).

The document was developed by the Guidelines and Protocols Advisory Committee (GPAC), a partnership between Doctors of BC and the BC government, in collaboration with the BC Centre on Substance Use (BCCSU). It is a summary version of the BCCSU’s guideline, published in June 2017 with the content condensed and adapted for use in the primary care setting.
