Health Authority Engagement Survey 2020 – A first look at what you told us

December 14, 2020

It has been a difficult year for BC ‘s doctors, as you worked hard to provide British Columbians with the care they needed during the COVID-19 pandemic. In September, 3,200 doctors participated in our fifth annual Health Authority Engagement Survey, which provides a snapshot of how members are feeling about engagement with their health authority and/or local hospital.

The feedback is crucial in helping Doctors of BC advocate for you and drive positive change in our healthcare system. We will release a comprehensive report of findings in the new year, but wanted to share some high-level outcomes from our ‘What We Heard’ fact sheet,

Survey at a glance

  • A total of 3,200 members (28%) responded to the survey, a 2% increase from 2019.
  • In most cases, the initial results indicate that even in the midst of an overwhelming year, communication and engagement levels between physicians and health authorities have improved.
  • It’s important to note that despite the positive trends indicated in this initial release of data, there are still many ongoing challenges – but these results can be harnessed to ensure we continue to make progress.

What’s next?

In 2021, Doctors of BC will release a summary analysis and full detailed report outlining each survey question, including breakdowns by facility/hospital, community/divisions, medical leadership, health authority, and other key demographics.
