GPSC Co-chair opportunity

April 6, 2022

A rare opportunity has become available for a practicing primary care physician to help lead primary care transformation. The General Practice Services Committee (GPSC) is looking for a Doctors of BC co-chair to co-lead this joint committee with the BC government, health authorities, and family doctors on matters affecting the provision of primary care in BC.

With a strategic focus on strengthening community longitudinal family physicians by supporting clinical practice, the Divisions of Family Practice, and Patient Medical Homes, the GPSC identifies potential changes in how family physicians deliver services that could result in improvements in patient care, more effective utilization of physician and other healthcare resources, and measurable savings in expenditures. It is a very collaborative committee, that has a far reach across the province, across health care disciplines.

Key skills include:

  • Proven leadership experience, including facilitating collaborative discussion and consensus decision-making,
  • Ability to identify emerging issues relevant to the committee's mandate and prioritize committee work in alignment with the Board's strategic focus areas, including issues at an individual practice level as well as from a systems level perspective,
  • Fulsome understanding of primary care and the broader health care system in British Columbia,
  • Experience with and knowledge of key GPSC initiatives
