Dr Granger Avery – CMA President-Elect 2015-2016

February 24, 2015

Doctors of BC congratulates rural physician Dr Granger Avery on becoming our nominee for the position of Canadian Medical Association President-Elect for 2015-2016.  The nomination will be confirmed at CMA’s General Council meeting in August.  Dr Avery obtained a clear majority receiving 52% of the 2660 votes cast.

Based in Port McNeill, British Columbia, Dr Avery has more than four decades of rural generalist practice and more than three decades of medical politics – all which have given him a close look at the evolving practice of medicine and the opportunity of working with a number of remarkable physicians who share the common purpose of healthier patients, a healthier society, and a fulfilling profession.

Dr Avery has a fervent interest in rural health, having chaired several committees dedicated to improving the health of rural populations and the doctors who work there, as well as supporting our young doctors in training, in teaching them, and in reducing their graduation debt load.

His recent work has focused on physician privileging in hospitals – ensuring the rules which physicians must follow when attached to hospital work are fair.

Doctors of BC thanks fellow candidates Dr. Ross and Dr. Jetha for continuing to serve the profession by being on the CMA Board and by standing in this election.
