Doctors of BC makes submission on cannabis regulation

November 24, 2017

Doctors of BC has provided our submission to the provincial government as part of its engagement on the development of a regulatory framework for non-medicinal cannabis. The consultation is taking place as the federal government prepares to legalize cannabis for recreational use.

Our submission supports a public health approach to regulating non-medicinal cannabis in BC – a position also taken by the Canadian Medical Association, the national physician representative body. We recommend developing an initial regulatory framework that is fairly restrictive, and suggest future changes to cannabis regulations be based on evidence and careful evaluation of the impact of BC’s regulatory regime.

We want to hear from you – what are your thoughts on regulation of non-medical cannabis? Please send your comments to  and watch for more member consultation on this important issue in the near future.
