CEO's Letter: Referendum Results

January 19, 2017

Dear Members:

Thank you to all members for taking the time to cast your ballot in the special resolution votes on Governance and the Societies Act. Voting concluded yesterday at midnight, and as Chief Electoral Officer I am now able to share the results with you.

Special Resolution on Governance

Membership voted in favour of replacing the current Doctors of BC Board with that of a dual structure: a 9-member Board and a 104-member Representative Assembly. A total of 2920 valid votes were cast with 2740 in favour of the resolution, thereby achieving the necessary 2/3 of the votes needed to pass this resolution.

Special Resolution on the Societies Act

Membership voted in favour of approving changes to Doctors of BC’s Constitution enabling the Association to be officially designated as a Member-Funded Society, remaining accountable to its members but not to the public. A total of 2915 valid votes were cast with 2859 in favour, thereby achieving the necessary 2/3 of the votes needed to pass this resolution.

I would like to thank membership again for taking the time to have your voice heard in this important vote. More information on next steps, as well as how and when these changes will be implemented, will be shared with you in the coming days. We will also ensure to keep membership informed as the changes are incorporated.

Yours faithfully,

Allan Seckel, QC

Chief Executive Officer
