About the Representative Assembly

The Representative Assembly (RA) provides a forum to discuss issues of importance to the profession and provides guidance to the Board of Directors in decision making. It brings together physicians from all medical sections and regions, including those who provide services within the scope of the Rural Practice Subsidiary Agreement, the First Nations Health Authority or other Indigenous health contexts, students, and residents. Responsibilities of the Representative Assembly are established in Bylaw 10.2.

Responsibilities include:

  • Elect Board Directors at Large, as well as Members at Large on the Audit and Finance Committee, Governance Committee and Nominating Committee, from amongst candidates nominated by and from the Doctors of BC membership.
  • Elect the Speaker and Deputy Speaker of the Representative Assembly, from amongst candidates nominated by and from the Doctors of BC membership.
  • Approve any increase or decrease to membership dues.
  • Monitor Board performance.
